If you are looking for a challenging and scenic run, the Prospect Bandit Run 5K (PBR)in Waltham is for you.
No fee, No number and after the first half mile, not that much oxygen either.
Timing and placing will be kept the old-fashioned way with Popsicle sticks turned into the time keeper.
The 3.1 mile course has 1.5 miles of paved road and 1.6 mile or trails and starts at the beginning of the entrance road. A steep climb along the service (Glenn) road for about the first 1/2 mile past a gate onto Sunset Trail through the mile mark just before the Bond Trail forks (Stay Right) and head toward Malloy Trail stay left at the Malloy Blueberry trail intersection about 1.43 miles. Malloy Trail to the access road and go right about 100 yard to the Summer House Trail (don't miss the turn) and the granite stair case on the left. Head up the stairs through the camp sites and back out to the road and where the trail rises to a 465 foot elevation as it enters the Ridge Trail leading to "Little Prospect" and the scenic outlook. The next 1/4 mile along the Ridge Trail brings you down to 280 and then back up to 480 feet at the summit of "Big Prospect" at the antenna. The course comes back onto the service road past the water tower and to a “Y” paved intersection at about 2.3 mile mark, go left for .2 miles and turn RIGHT onto Richardson Trail which heads back to the Totten Pond Road Parking area and ends at the stone pillars.
