Beeeautiful night for a run through the city.
Not too cold, no snow and ice, just a nice night for a run.
Some people think road racing is a warm
weather sport. Well some people are wrong. Loads of races coming up with a
wide variety of distances, here's a small sampling..
Dec 31, New years Eve The
Main St mile in Worcester. Advertised as "All down hill" which is a
big fat lie. But what the hell it's only a mile.
Jan 1, New Year's day The Freezer
Five in Sterling. The name says it all. New this year is a kids
race before the main event.
Jan 18 The Frostbite 15K down in
beautiful Raynham. Jim Dupont, New England's most Likeable Race director bills
this as an invitational. The truth is, if you pay the fee, you're
invited. Great course, good cause, and kick ass breakfast post
race.
A little later in the season, March 1 to be
specific we have "Stu's
30K" around the Wachusett reservoir. 18.6 miles of hills, wind,
cold, it doesn't get any better!!! This year is the 30th anniversary. Sign
up now and run the race. Let's be honest Stu ain't gettin' any younger.
:)
And finally for the grand finale,
especially for those training for Boston this spring, we have the Eastern States 20 miler a
personal favorite of yours truly. 20 miles, three states, and if you are brave
enough or stupid may be a better description, a dip in the chilly Atlantic to
soothe the achy muscles and maybe send the ticker into shock.
Of course there are always the weekly races
around the area. CMS runs a 5K Saturday mornings at Worcester State College. We
have our Monday night run in Kelley Sq. If you are goin' west you could try the
Snowstorm classics out in Springfield. And if you are headin' east there is the
Monday night Bur'Run 5k in Davis Sq Somerville or on Thursday night you could
hit Khourys State Spa for a free 4.13 mile run through lovely East
Somerville and a cold beer.
There are many others to be found, some
inadvertently overlooked, and some deliberately. Anyway, there
is plenty of racing to do, go out and do it.
See you Monday.
