DCRRC Bon Air 5K

Despite a steady rain, 90 runners officially completed the Bon Air Park 5 km race in Arlington on Thursday, July 26th. The race served as the 6th of the 8 races comprising the 2001 Bunion Derby series and the club's 5K championship. It began and finished in Bon Air Park, against the cheery backdrop of a large, robust, 50-year-old rose garden; the course took the runners out and back over bike trails. Youth reigned among the men: six of the top nine finishers were under the age of 25. Joe Racine, 23, captured first place in a time of 16:07, followed by Eric Zander, 31, in 16:38 and L.A. Snead, 18, in 16:48. The remarkably durable and consistent Paul Ryan, 50, was the first male masters finisher in a time of 17:48. A similar story played out among the 17 women who finished the race. Youth prevailed as Olivia Laney, 23, came in first in a time of 21:09, followed by Jeannie Cronin, 25 in 22:10 and Rebekah Dunbar, 20, in 22:21. The equally durable Jennifer McGrail, 46, was the first female masters finisher in a time of 23:43.
