Brendle Wins Patterson Park Chase
David Brendle started pulling away at the one mile mark and maintained a lead
to the finish of the Metro Harriers Cross Country Challenge #3 dubbed "The
Patterson Park Chase." On a beautiful sunny day, Brendle established a new
record for the Patterson Park course in 16:18. Craig Morrell (16:49) and John
Kessinger (17:35) ran solid races to take second and third respectively on the
rolling hills.
Tim Wehrkamp (Oregon T.C.) opened a lead on Ed Harte (Metro Harriers) in the
second mile to take the Masters division 20:07 to 21:11. John Barnes (Army) was
third Master in 22:18.
Alex De La Paz, 13 of Leonardtown, was top Junior in 22:09. Alex, an 8th
Grader, is putting in a full fall of races to prepare for his freshman seasons
of high school cross country and track next year.
Tom McKeldin (23:37), Clint Roby (28:21), and Richard Krummerich (29:13)
rounded out the field.
The next races in the Challenge series will be the Three Mile Championship
November 17 and the Five Mile Championship November 24. Both championship races
are scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. and will take place at Baybrook Park.
