On September 15, 2001, the City of Lakeside Park hosted the Second Annual 5K Run/Walk for Hospice in memory of Mary Steggman. The event started at 8:00 a.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church and the course covered various scenic streets within the community.
Kit Andrews from Channel 12 was the Master of Ceremonies. In spite of the national tragedy, more than 100 participants turned out to support this worthwhile cause.
